PARK CITY, UT — Park City Fire District is marking the retirement of Battalion Chief Darren Nelson, a 30-year veteran whose career spanned frontline emergency response, specialized rescue work, and leadership within the department.
Nelson began with the district in 1995 as a part-time firefighter and moved into a full-time role in 1997. Over three decades, he served in multiple capacities, including as an engineer, paramedic, and technical rescue specialist. He also served as the department’s liaison to Utah Task Force 1, a role focused on large-scale incident response and coordination.
“Chief Nelson will be greatly missed, and we thank him for his decades of dedicated service,” the district said in a post announcing his retirement.
