Wild start to the season as Deer Valley lives up to its name

PARK CITY, Utah — A young skier at Deer Valley Resort had a close call on opening weekend after three deer ran across a ski trail, forcing the skier to make a quick avoidance maneuver. No injuries were reported, and the animals continued off the run without incident.

Deer Valley Resort opened to the public this weekend with a limited number of chairlifts and terrain open, including Birdseye, Silver Link, Wide West and Success.

Wildlife sightings are not uncommon early in the season as animals adjust to increased activity on the mountain.
