Park City seeks artists for neighborhood-themed bike rack designs

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City is accepting proposals from artists to design laser-cut metalwork for bicycle racks that will be installed throughout the city’s seven neighborhoods.

The designs will be integrated into inverted U-shaped bike racks at locations determined by the city’s Transportation Department, according to a request for proposals released by Park City Municipal Corp. Each design should reflect neighborhood themes tied to natural environment, arts and culture, community, or local history.

Artists may submit designs representing one neighborhood or create a cohesive set covering multiple areas. The city’s seven neighborhoods are Prospector, Deer Valley, Old Town, Bonanza Area, Thaynes Canyon, Quinns/Park City Heights, and Park Meadows.

Selected artists will receive $800 per design. The payment grants the city the right to reproduce and display the artwork multiple times without additional compensation.

Design specifications require a rectangular layout 14 inches high by 16 inches wide, submitted as vector files in .AI or .EPS format. Logos and words are not permitted.

Proposals must include an artist bio, a project statement of 700 words or fewer, design files, and at least 3 images of past work. The submission is limited to eight pages.

A pre-proposal meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 21 at City Hall, 445 Marsac Ave., third floor, with a virtual option available via Zoom.

Proposals are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 30 and must be submitted electronically to the city art coordinator, Stephanie Valdez, at stephanie.valdez@parkcity.gov.

The selection committee will evaluate proposals on Feb. 9, with possible interviews on Feb. 13 and final selection on Feb. 20. City Council approval is scheduled for March 12, with a project completion deadline of June 30.

Priority will be given to Park City artists, followed by those from nearby areas or with strong local connections.
