Pumpkin composting sites open at Park City schools through mid-November

PARK CITY, Utah — Don’t know what to do with your carved pumpkins after the Halloween festivities are over? Park City School District, Park City Community Foundation, and Momentum Recycling have partnered to offer multiple “Pumpkin Composting” drop off locations from October 31 through November 14.

Drop off locations include

  • Jeremy Ranch Elementary School
  • Parley’s Park Elementary School
  • Trailside Elementary School
  • McPolin Elementary School
  • Ecker HIll Middle School
  • Park City High School
  • PC MARC

The community can also bring their pumpkins to the bins at Recycle Utah during their business hours.

The organizers ask that all paint, glitter, and other decorations be removed from the pumpkins prior to drop off.

Additionally,Park City MARC will be hosting another Pumpkin Smash event on Saturday, November 8 from 12-2 p.m. Pumpkin remains from that event will also be composted.
Last year, 19.41 tons of pumpkins were successfully diverted away from the landfill, up from 15 tons in 2023, according to the Park City Community Foundation. In total, these efforts have offset 72.8 Metric tons of methane gas and saved more than $5,000 in landfill air space.
The Community Foundation is also encouraging residents to join the Zero Food Waste movement by signing up for weekly food waste collection at their homes. Eligible Summit County residents can get FREE service in 2025. Learn more: parkcitycf.org/curbsidecollection
