Police log: Search for overdue family; drug arrest on SR-248; moose incidents

Sunday, October 6

Incident: Wildlife Problem

A moose was reported walking on the backside of McPolin Elementary School. The moose moved on to the north safely.

Incident: Wildlife Problem

A moose was reported trapped in fencing to the east of Treasure Mountain Junior High School. The animal appeared frantic and barricaded inside the fence.

Incident: Shots Fired

Deputies, UHP, DNR, PCPD, and drone units responded to a report of shots fired, which turned out to be a small group target shooting.

Tuesday, October 8

Incident: Reckless Driver

UHP advised of an individual following a reckless driver who hit the side rail and was driving slowly on SR-224 near Ute Boulevard. The vehicle was identified as a silver Chevy Equinox.

Incident: Elevator Rescue

Deputies and fire responded to an elevator entrapment at the hospital on Round Valley Drive. One person had been trapped in the northernmost basement elevator for approximately 15 minutes.

Wednesday, October 9

Incident: Reckless Driver

A slate gray Corvette ran a red light in Thaynes Canyon and almost hit a pedestrian. The vehicle was traveling over 60 mph, headed toward Kimball. A witness was willing to sign a complaint.

Thursday, October 10

Incident: Hit and Run

A caller reported that someone hit his car at 2064 Snow Creek Lane, causing significant damage to the right rear quarter panel, which was almost completely off. The owner suspected a vehicle parked across the street may have been involved.

Incident: Traffic Hazard

A dead deer was reported in the left turning lane on SR-224 at Meadows Drive.

Friday, October 11

Incident: Drugs

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle at mile marker 12 on SR-248 for multiple violations. While investigating for impaired driving, a controlled substance and paraphernalia were discovered in the vehicle. The driver was booked into Summit County Jail.

Incident: Traffic Complaint

A caller reported a large red tour bus driving on Queen Esther Drive. The caller stated that the road is not rated for a large tour bus.

Incident: Unwanted Person

An intoxicated female was asked to leave The Cabin on Main Street. Staff advised they did not serve her anything and requested she be removed.

Incident: Search and Rescue

SAR was contacted about a possible overdue family in the Henry’s Fork area. Deputies responded to the trailhead looking for the family’s vehicle, but it was never located. A missing person report was taken by the South Jordan PD. During the investigation, the family vehicle was located in Big Cotton Canyon. Unified and South Jordan PD coordinated search efforts.

Saturday, October 12

Incident: Utility Water Problem

Water Department personnel called requesting law enforcement assistance on Queen Esther Drive. There was a large sinkhole and they needed assistance with lights and traffic control. Officers stayed on scene assisting the water department with traffic control, for approximately 40 minutes.

Incident: Search and Rescue Training

Search and Rescue conducted high angle rescue training at Park City Station 33.
