PARK CITY, Utah — Loved ones, caregivers and supporters of Utahns living with Alzheimer’s disease will gather Saturday, Sept. 6, for the Summit/Wasatch County Walk to End Alzheimer’s at the Newpark Amphitheater.
The annual event is one of seven Walks to End Alzheimer’s organized by the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah in 2025. Collectively, the walks aim to raise $570,000, with $191,000 targeted for the Park City event. Proceeds fund programs and services for families living with Alzheimer’s as well as research to find a cure.
More than 7.4 million Americans, including 38,300 Utahns, are living with Alzheimer’s, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. The disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and remains the only leading disease without a prevention or cure.
“The toll from Alzheimer’s disease is rising relentlessly and will continue to do so until we find a cure,” said Stacie Kulp, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah. “Every dollar we can raise for research to find a cure is an investment in our health and that of future generations.”
The association is currently funding 1,150 projects worldwide, committing more than $430 million across 57 countries on six continents. It is the world’s largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research.
In Utah, more than 115,000 family and friends provide unpaid care for people living with the disease. Together, they contributed an estimated 137 million hours of support in 2024, valued at $2.9 billion. Women make up two-thirds of both those diagnosed and the caregivers. Since 2000, deaths from Alzheimer’s have increased 145%, while deaths from heart disease have declined 7%. Alzheimer’s kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.
The Summit/Wasatch County Walk will open with registration at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. ceremony. This year’s event will be held at the Newpark Amphitheater, 1456 Newpark Blvd., a location donated by Crandall Capital.
National sponsors of the Walk include Edward Jones, Biogen, Salesforce and Eisai. Local sponsors are Crandall Capital, Christie’s International Real Estate Park City, Summit Sotheby’s International Realty, The Bagel Den, Atticus Coffee & Teahouse, Fetch, and Kodiak Cakes.
