Construction continues on new Smith & Morehouse Bridge designed to withstand 100-year flood event

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Drivers headed to Smith & Morehouse Reservoir should plan for intermittent delays on East Weber Canyon Road later this week as construction crews continue work on the Smith & Morehouse Bridge replacement project.

(UDOT & Summit County)

According to Summit County, traffic will be restricted to a single lane across the bridge and could cause up to 20-minutes delays from Thursday, August 21, through Friday, August 22. Temporary traffic signals will be installed to manage vehicle flow. Drivers are urged to slow down in the work zone for their own safety and the safety of construction crews.

The Smith & Morehouse Bridge replacement is being carried out in phases through summer 2025. The new structure will be built to withstand a 100-year flood event, addressing long-standing concerns about the aging bridge’s ability to handle high water.

The project is funded in part through the Bridge Formula Program, which provides federal funding for locally owned bridges in need to repair.
