Park City man faces 10 felony charges for possessing child sexual abuse material

PARK CITY, Utah – A Park City man is facing ten second-degree felony charges for allegedly possessing and sharing child sexual abuse material, following an investigation led by the Utah Attorney General’s Office and Park City Police.

According to court documents filed in 3rd District Court, Hector Escobar Cabral, 29, was charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Prosecutors allege that between November 2024 and April 2025, Cabral knowingly viewed and distributed child sex abuse material (CSAM) using internet accounts tied to his Summit County residence.

The case was initiated after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a tip from an electronic service provider reporting that CSAM had been uploaded through an account later linked to Cabral. A search warrant was issued and executed at his home on April 16, where law enforcement reportedly recovered multiple explicit files and obtained admissions from Cabral.

According to a probable cause statement, Cabral admitted to viewing CSAM for the past two years, including the day before his arrest. He also confessed to sending images to others and said he was excited by their reactions. Investigators say forensic analysis confirmed the presence of illegal materials on Cabral’s devices.

Cabral told authorities he has never touched a child inappropriately, according to the statement of probable cause. He explained the CSAM was new and exciting for him to look at. The statement of probable cause described the explicit videos, noting that at least one depicted an act of sodomy.

Cabral told police he was a former employee of Riverhorse on Main, the court documents said.

The Utah Attorney General’s Office filed a request for no bail, citing Cabral as a significant threat to the public—particularly children—and highlighting studies that link viewing CSAM to future contact offenses. Prosecutors also emphasized that monitoring internet activity on pretrial release would be insufficient to protect the community.

“The continued circulation and each new publication of the recorded image of sexual abuse inflicted on a child causes a new injury,” the filing states.

During an April 22 hearing Judge Richard Mrazik determined Cabral should be held in Summit County’s jail without bail. Cabral is scheduled to appear in 3rd District Court Friday, April 25. The case remains under investigation.
