Summit County Restaurant Tax Grant aims to boost tourism and economic growth, deadline approaches

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Applications for the 2025 Summit County Restaurant Tax Grant are due by March 31 at 5 p.m., with $4.37 million in available funding to promote tourism and support local economic development.

Established under Utah state law, the Restaurant Tax Grant is overseen by the Summit County Council and administered by the Restaurant Tax Advisory Committee. The nine-member committee, which includes representatives from government, business, and tourism sectors, recommends how to allocate funds collected from the county’s 1% restaurant tax.

All applicants must submit complete financial reporting; failure to do so could disqualify future applications or result in penalties.

Applicants are also expected to reserve time for interviews on April 23 and 24, during which the committee will review proposals. Final recommendations will be presented to the Summit County Council on May 7.

Applications will be scored out of 100 possible points across six categories:

  • Sustainable tourism: up to 20 points
  • Cultural tourism: up to 10 points
  • Leverage of other funding: up to 15 points
  • Potential to increase restaurant tax revenue: up to 20 points
  • New and developing projects: up to 10 points
  • Community or tourism asset: up to 25 points

The 2024 cycle received 55 applications and awarded a total of $4.13 million.

Current members of the advisory committee include Chair Billy Demong, Vice Chair Alyssa Marsh, Secretary Eric Bradshaw, and members Guy Morris, Heleena Sideris, Beth Rossi, Peter Tomai, Maureen Dunn, Ryan Crittenden and Summit County’s Amy Jones.

Applications will be available online at summitcounty.org/868/Restaurant-Tax-Grant.
