Run-A-Muk closes for April: Join the Spring Cleanup and find the Golden Poop!

PARK CITY, Utah — The Run-A-Muk off-leash dog area will close for the month of April to allow for restoration and prevent damage caused by muddy conditions. The annual closure supports the regrowth of native grasses and wildflowers while preserving the integrity of the popular trail system.

To help prepare the area for its reopening, Basin Recreation is calling on volunteers to participate in a spring cleanup event on Friday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to noon. Participants, including their four-legged companions, can meet at the new lower Run-A-Muk trailhead to assist in clearing trash and dog waste accumulated over the winter months. Supplies, including buckets, shovels, and gloves, will be provided.

Last year, volunteers removed 365 pounds of trash and waste from the area. Organizers hope to build on that effort and encourage as many participants as possible. As an added incentive, a “golden poop” will be hidden along the trail, with a prize awarded to the lucky finder.

The cleanup event offers a rare opportunity for visitors and their dogs to access the park during its seasonal closure. The annual shutdown is designed to protect the area from damage caused by foot traffic and ensure the long-term health of its vegetation.
