Police log: theft, impersonation of an officer

Friday, March 21
Incident: Theft
Unknown suspects entered the Nike Outlet store and left with approximately $2,000 in merchandise. Photos of the suspects were obtained, and it was also discovered that they had hit the Nike stores in West Jordan, Lehi, and Farmington.
Saturday, March 22
Incident: DUI
A vehicle with an equipment violation was observed traveling westbound on Interstate 80, mile marker 141. A traffic stop was initiated, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emitted from inside the vehicle. The driver agreed to perform a standardized field sobriety test; performance was poor and ultimately resulted in the arrest for DUI.
Incident: Pursuit
A traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on State Road 224 and Ute Blvd. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued into Salt Lake County after Deputies successfully spiked one of the tires at the county line. Salt Lake UHP was notified of the pursuit entering their jurisdiction and agreed to assist. The vehicle was successfully spiked a second time on I-80 near mile marker 125. The vehicle continued to flee despite having all tires spiked and traveling on its rims. UHP Trooper was able to successfully PIT the vehicle prior to it entering I-15 NB. The male driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot (never located). The vehicle was also occupied by a female passenger that was arrested on scene. The owner of the vehicle was contacted via telephone, confirming that it had been stolen during the night from the Clearfield area.
Incident: Drugs
Deputies observed a vehicle crash into a cement barrier while it was traveling eastbound on Interstate 80. During the investigation of the incident, a K9 deployment was conducted. A search of the vehicle resulted in a distributable amount of narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
Sunday, March 23
Search and Rescue: Summit SAR assists Wasatch County SAR with an overdue party. The overdue party’s vehicle was located in Summit County at North Fork Trailhead, Norway Flats. There is a possibility that the overdue party is in Summit County jurisdiction. The operation was still ongoing at shift change. Update 03/24/25 11:30 a.m. – Individual located inside of Wasatch County by SAR and extracted by DPS helicopter. The individual was uninjured. This is a Wasatch County incident and additional information may be available from WCSO SAR.
Monday, March 24
Search & Rescue: SAR located the missing individual in the Norway Flats area. The male was in good health and signed a medical release.
Incident: Impersonation
Deputies responded to investigate an impersonation incident in the parking lot of the Sheriff’s Office at 6300 Justice Center Rd. It was determined that the suspect had identified as a Peace Officer, when in fact he was not a Peace Officer. After consultation with the Summit County Attorney Office, the male was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail without further issue.
