Police log: SAR avalanche recovery, DUIs, and a moose on the loose

Search and Rescue (SAR) members stopped search efforts for an overdue individual caught in an avalanche near the Hoyts Peak area due to weather and safety concerns for those assisting in the search.

Saturday, March 8

With assistance from additional resources, SAR located and recovered an overdue individual caught in an avalanche near the Hoyts Peak area on Friday.

Incident: DUI
Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle unable to maintain its lane on SR 32 near Rockport. Upon locating the vehicle, deputies observed signs of impairment during their investigation. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Incident: DUI
Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle observed driving erratically on I-80 eastbound near mile marker 170. The investigation determined that the driver was impaired. The male driver was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail without incident.

Incident: DUI
Deputies responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle near Highland Drive and Old Ranch Road. Upon locating the vehicle, deputies conducted a traffic stop, which led to a DUI arrest along with other violations. The male driver was taken into custody and transported to the Summit County Jail without incident.

Incident: Intoxication
Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at Liberty Peak Apartments involving a highly intoxicated mother and daughter. Both individuals denied any physical altercation, and deputies found no evidence of a domestic violence offense. Due to their level of intoxication, both were transported to Park City Medical Center. At the hospital, one of the women became uncooperative and attempted to leave on foot. As she was unable to care for herself or walk properly, she was taken into custody for intoxication.

Sunday, March 9

Search and Rescue (SAR) was activated to assist medical personnel with a skier who sustained a leg injury while recreating in the backcountry near Yellow Pine Trail. Due to the severity of the injury, the skier was rescued and transported by AirMed for further medical care.

Incident: Animal Problem

Large cow moose was observed running in the parking lot of Wells Fargo towards SR 248. She was herded off the roadway and last seen running through Prospector.
