Vail Resorts, Inc. (NYSE:MTN) shares slip as Park City ski patrollers’ strike continues
Stock market intelligence company Street Account shared in an update Thursday morning that "MTN shares are apparently seeing some pressure as a strike is underway by the ski patrol union at the company's Park City resort which began last Friday."
PARK CITY, Utah – MTN Vail Resorts, Inc. stock is trading lower today as the Park City Ski Patrol Union labor strike enters its seventh day. Shares of MTN were trading down 4.92% at 178.22 USD on the day as of 11:16 a.m. EST on Jan 2.
Stock market intelligence company Street Account shared in an update Thursday morning that “MTN shares are apparently seeing some pressure as a strike is underway by the ski patrol union at the company’s Park City resort which began last Friday.”
Nearly 200 members of the Park City Professional Ski Patrol Association (PCPSPA) began an Unfair Labor Practice strike Friday Dec. 27, citing bad-faith bargaining and violations of the National Labor Relations Act by Vail Resorts, the parent company of Park City Mountain.
Current reports from the union indicate that while both sides are still negotiating they are far from reaching a deal. On Dec. 31 four ski patrol unions across Vail Resorts North American portfolio sent a letter addressed to Vail Resorts CEO Kirsten Lynch accusing Vail Resorts of pressuring and coercing employees from other resorts to cross picket lines in Park City, leaving their home resorts without proper leadership during the busiest time of the year.
The unions called on Vail Resorts to cease pressuring employees to cross picket lines and to focus on negotiating a fair contract with the PCPSPA.
The main point of contention that has been made public is disagreement with the unions base wage increase from $21 to $23 an hour. The Park City Ski Patrol Union said Thursday, their other points of concern center on wage compression and improved benefits, including more accessible healthcare options.
The next mediation session is scheduled for Jan 2.
