Local artist Carrie Manteiga finds inspiration in Park City’s landscapes

PARK CITY, Utah — Carrie Manteiga, a Park City-based acrylic painter and avid outdoor enthusiast, brings the beauty of the Wasatch Mountains and surrounding landscapes to life through her artwork. Originally from Massachusetts, Manteiga moved to Park City four years ago, drawn by her passion for skiing, hiking, and mountain biking.

“I’ve always been a big skier and hiker,” Manteiga said. “Moving out here was a natural fit. Living in Timberline, right next to Summit Park, gives me incredible access to backcountry skiing and biking. Every time I step out my door, I see another beautiful landscape that inspires me.”

Manteiga’s paintings reflect her connection to nature, focusing on landscapes and seascapes. “When I lived out East, my work was influenced by the ocean, the woods, and sunsets,” she said. “Since moving here, it’s shifted to mountains, meadows, and Western landscapes. It’s amazing how much living in a place like Park City impacts what you create.”

Her creative process often begins during outdoor adventures. “I’ll be out skiing, biking, or hiking, and when I see something inspiring, I take a bunch of pictures,” Manteiga explained. “Sometimes I know right away that a photo will become a painting. Other times, I revisit pictures and notice something I didn’t see before—maybe the colors or composition stand out in a new way.”

Manteiga’s work, which has gradually evolved to larger canvas sizes to accommodate Park City’s expansive vistas, is available on her Etsy shop and Instagram. She also participates in local events such as the Park City Makers Market.

While Manteiga balances her artistic pursuits with a full-time career as a mechanical engineer, she finds parallels between the two disciplines. “Both require attention to detail and the ability to see the bigger picture,” she noted. “At work, we say, ‘the devil’s in the details,’ and it’s the same in painting. If even small sections aren’t right, the whole piece feels off.”

For Manteiga, painting remains a source of joy and a way to connect with others. “It’s really cool to transform an outdoor experience into a painting that means a lot to me,” she said. “And when it resonates with someone else, and they want it in their home, that’s such an incredible feeling.”
