Historic Park City hosts live shows and museum lectures in January
PARK CITY, Utah — Historic Park City’s Main Street and Park City Museum annex will host a series of events throughout January, including special programming during the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
The monthlong schedule features live performances, lectures and art gallery events.
“2025 is off to a busy start with plenty of ways to enjoy Historic Park City,” Historic Park City Alliance Executive Director Ginger Wicks said. “Sundance always brings a unique energy to town, and our local business community is proud to showcase all that our world-class destination has to offer.”
Secrets of the Greatest Snow on Earth Lecture
Wednesday, 1/8 | 5 – 6 p.m.
This lecture given by University of Utah Atmospheric Sciences Professor Jim Steenburgh (a.k.a. “Professor Powder”) provides an insider’s view of Wasatch weather, exposing the myths, explaining the reality, and revealing how and why Utah’s powder lives up to its reputation. The lecture will be held at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center at 2079 Sidewinder Drive.
Gwyneth Goes Skiing at The Egyptian Theatre
Wednesday, 1/8 – Saturday, 1/18
Back by popular demand after its successful May debut, this brand-new show is a very silly story of justice, betrayal and optometry. The audience becomes the jury and decides who’s guilty and who’s gooped.
Locals Only Exhibit at Gallery MAR
Friday, 1/10 | 6 – 9 p.m.
Gallery MAR kicks off the new year with Local’s Only, an exhibition showcasing the incredible talent of Utah-based artists. This special event highlights the diverse styles and voices of our local creative community, featuring new works from beloved Gallery MAR artists who call Utah home.
Ghosts of the Past: Unearthing Utah’s Mining History Through Abandoned Mines
Wednesday, 1/15 | 5 – 6 p.m.
This lecture given by Stuart Burgess is hosted by the Park City Museum and Friends of Ski Mountain Mining History. Dive into the hidden stories of Utah’s mining history and discuss abandoned mines that have long been forgotten. This lecture will shed light on the rich heritage of Utah’s mining industry, offering unique insights gained from firsthand underground explorations of these historical sites. The lecture takes place at the Park City Museum Education and Collections Center at 2079 Sidewinder Drive.
Katherin Heigl and Josh Kelley: Mountain Love Story
Wednesday, 1/22 open daily for three weeks
This exhibition opens on January 22nd and will run for three weeks, coinciding with the Sundance Film Festival. All exhibition sales will benefit the Heigl family’s non-profit, the Jason Debus Foundation. Founded in 2008 by Nancy and Katherine Heigl, the Foundation serves to end animal cruelty and abuse. It also celebrates the compassion, kindness, and memory of their beloved son and brother, Jason.
