Summit County launches new texting and notification service for residents

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah—Summit County is introducing a new communication platform through TextMyGov, a text messaging service designed to streamline connections between residents and county services. The service allows residents to receive important non-emergency notifications, access specific information, or report issues by text.

The new system will be publicly launched on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Residents with a cell phone number listed with the Post Office can expect to receive an initial text message from Summit County at 91896. Those who prefer not to participate can opt out by texting “STOP” to the same number.

Residents who do not receive the initial message can opt in by texting the keyword “SUMMIT COUNTY” to 91896 and confirming with “YES” will activate the service. Notifications will include updates on events, service disruptions, and more.

To receive specific alerts, residents can use the following keywords:

  • SCROADS: Updates on road construction, snow plowing, and other Public Works notifications.
  • SCHEALTH: Health advisories and updates from the Summit County Health Department.
  • SCBIKE: Information on Summit Bike Share.

Additional notification categories are planned for release in 2025. Starting in the spring, residents will have 24/7 access to on-demand information by texting 1-2 keywords to the dedicated TextMyGov number, 435-495-4090. This feature will provide quick access to details about county departments and elected offices and provide a platform for reporting concerns.
