Making Christmas bright: Mountain Life to give free trees to single moms

PARK CITY, Utah — A local church’s men’s ministry is spreading holiday cheer by providing free Christmas trees to single mothers in the Park City area this Friday.

Mountain Life Church, in partnership with Park City Gardens, will distribute 100 6-foot-tall Christmas trees to single mothers on December 6 from 5-9 p.m. at the church grounds.

“We have been building our community, and it’s important for us to lead by example,” said Matt Meddock, one of the leaders of the Men’s Ministry at Mountain Life Church. “I personally have had some rough Christmases, and there has been a time in my life that I thought I might be a single dad. Now I have a big heart for those who are spending Christmas alone.”

The event, dubbed Single Mom’s “Christmas Blessing,” will include complimentary hot chocolate and candy canes for children. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with baling trees and securing them to vehicles.

Park City Gardens has partnered with the church by providing the trees at cost. The church has already secured funding for the initiative and is not seeking additional donations.

“If we end up with more than 100 moms in need, then we will just buy more trees. No one will be left out!” Meddock said.

The organizers have already allocated 40 trees and are hoping to reach more single mothers in need. To sign up for a tree, visit the Mountain Life website.

Mountain Life Church plans to make this inaugural event an annual tradition.
