Park City Swim Team making waves in Sante Fe
SANTA FE, N.M. — The Park City Swim Team excelled at a recent regional meet, with two athletes achieving senior state times and one making a junior national time. The team reduced their times by over 1,164 seconds, not accounting for altitude adjustments.
Park City High School senior Keegan Elgie secured his first junior national qualification in the 1,650-yard freestyle and earned High Points in the 15-18 age group. He also dominated the 1,000-yard event.
Logan Brick had a breakthrough performance, significantly improving her times and winning High Points for 15-18 girls. On the first night, she earned a Senior Zones cut in both the 400 individual medley and 1,650 freestyle. During the finals, she won back-to-back races in the 200 and 100 butterfly events with improved times.
Kate Cink, an Ecker Hill Middle School swimmer, attended the Santa Fe Veterans Invitational with her mother, Andrea, a team booster volunteer. The Park City Aquatic Center, where the team trains, is located at Kate’s school.
“Our first big travel meet of the season is in the books, and we are so impressed,” said head coach Gadi Shamah. “The team captured nine of the 18 High-Point awards, which is especially impressive given our smaller size.”
“This fall, our team has been training harder than ever, and that work is paying off. We’re improving in our turns and underwaters,” Shamah said. “We were happy to see the positive attitude and camaraderie throughout the meeting, and we did a fantastic job cheering and pushing each other to reach new goals.”
