PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Speedskating Club’s Speed Miners Team invites the community to an evening of costumes and skating on Oct. 28 at the Park City Ice Arena. “Skate in your best costumes,” says coach and club president Brian Boudreau, who is leading the Halloween-themed event.
The Speed Miners wrapped up a successful “Learn-to-Skate” session on Thursday night, drawing over 30 new and returning young skaters to the ice for a mix of fun and speed.
This fall, Boudreau announced a new partnership between the Speedskating Club and the Basin Recreation Fieldhouse, which will serve as the club’s dry-land training center. Families curious about speedskating are welcome to observe these training sessions at 5 p.m. on Nov. 7, 14, 21 and Dec. 5, 12, and 19.
I've lived in Park City for 30 years but right off the starting line, my journalism professors expressed plaudits after class for writing more so about the small-town sports in the surrounding mountains than the urban updates they assigned. Therefore, I’m on par punning and penning Parkites' pastimes. Turning high and early through my career, I’ve worked communications for The Olympics, the Paralympics and the Special Olympics. Additionally, there's been National Geographic, Patagonia, NCAA, USA Nordic and the United States Library of Congress, so I guess you could say this ain't my first rodeo.
