SNAPPED: Annual Park City fundraiser raises awareness and funds for veteran-focused programs
PARK CITY, Utah — On Oct. 24, the National Ability Center hosted its annual Saluting Our Heroes fundraiser to recognize veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their families and raise funds for its adaptive programs. The event drew community members and military supporters to the National Ability Center’s Park City facility, starting with a cocktail hour and continuing with a banquet dinner and speeches.
The evening highlighted personal stories from veterans involved in the center’s adaptive recreation programs. Lieutenant General Mark Hertling delivered the keynote address, while Spotlight Participant Annika Hutsler shared her experiences with the rehabilitation programs offered by the center. Hutsler joined the Marines after college but, after a few years, discovered a tumor in her foot. She had her leg amputated and now competes in adaptive sports.
Ben Rabiego, adventure and groups supervisor at the National Ability Center and a veteran himself, noted the organization’s long-standing commitment to the military community. “Veterans are what the National Ability Center was created for and by, and this event really honors all those participants and service members,” Rabiego said.
Funds raised will directly benefit the center’s military programs, which focus on offering adaptive sports, community events, and recreation to aid veterans and their families in physical and emotional recovery. Carin Demilo, the NAC’s events director, expressed excitement about this year’s dinner format, allowing guests to enjoy a meal while listening to veterans’ stories.
