Park City Lodging marks 40th anniversary with community celebration and film Beyond Zero
PARK CITY, Utah—Park City Lodging, Inc., will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2024, marking four decades of providing vacation rentals and home management services in Park City. The milestone highlights the company’s dedication to customer service and leadership in the property management industry.
Founded in 1984 by Rhonda Sideris, Park City Lodging, originally named R & R Properties, began with a single vacation rental. “I kind of started the business by accident,” Sideris said. “I was cleaning a house on Saturdays, and the person who managed the house said, ‘Why don’t you take over the management? You know the guests; you can check them in and out.’ And I said, ‘Great!’”
Sideris grew the business from its humble beginnings by acquiring 12 additional properties and hiring her first employees. What started as a small operation has since expanded into a thriving company with 70 year-round employees, managing 250 privately owned homes.
The company’s growth has been driven by its focus on personalized service and community values. “We started managing properties by word of mouth,” Sideris said. “We didn’t advertise much; people just knew us for our attention to detail and customer focus.”
Sideris credits much of Park City Lodging’s success to its commitment to sustainability and local engagement. Employees are encouraged to participate in volunteer activities, and the company offers incentives for carpooling and voting. “We offer benefits like discounted housing and paid time for volunteering because we want to support our employees as whole people, not just workers,” Sideris said.
Park City Lodging has implemented various sustainability efforts, including replacing plastic laundry bags with marine-grade canvas, eliminating single-use plastic bottles, recycling old linens, and participating in community clean-up days. “When I was in high school, instead of history, I took a recycling class and thought, ‘I’m going to do that.’”
Over the years, Park City Lodging has earned numerous accolades, including the Best of State award for six consecutive years and the Shortyz Award for Sustainability in 2021. In 2023, the company was named one of Utah’s 100 Companies Championing Women.
Looking to the future, Park City Lodging plans to expand into the East Village area of Deer Valley while continuing to grow its property management portfolio. Despite the company’s success and growth, Sideris remains committed to the principles that have guided her for 40 years: asking questions, sharing knowledge, and putting the community first.
Sideris offers this advice for aspiring business owners: “Be curious, work hard, and don’t forget to have fun.”
To mark its 40th anniversary, Park City Lodging will host a free screening of the film Beyond Zero on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Jim Santy Auditorium. The film, which is free and open to the public, examines how businesses can address climate change and aligns with the company’s environmental initiatives.
A panel discussion will follow the screening. “We hope the film inspires people to think about how they can be more kind and sustainable in their own lives,” Sideris said.
