Miners Mountain Bike Team pedals strong at State Champs
A winter storm made for challenging conditions in Cedar City
CERDAR CITY, Utah — The co-ed mountain biking team from Park City High Schools faced tough competition from teams across Utah, along with challenging weather, during the state championships this weekend in Cedar City.
A unseasonably cold snow storm cancelled the first part of the meet which was a disappointment for many families, however school spirit shined through in support of those who got to race and got it done for the Miners.
Addison Lundburg finished third in the Varsity Girls category while Cohen Flach came in 11th for Varsity Boys. Seniors Kaya Patterson, Talise Larsh, and Madeline Limback finished in the top 20 along with junior Kyle Clarke in the top 20 as well on the boys side.
Mom Janell Kurchinski wrote on Facebook, “I’m incredibly proud of Kinley this year. She made it to State mountain biking. Unfortunately her race was canceled yesterday due to six in of snow on the course. But just having made it to State shows her improvement as a mountain biker and her love of the sport.”
“We had a good season but I’m disappointed I wasn’t able to race at state,” Miner Levi Seliga told TownLift. “The course was gonna be fun and I was looking forward to racing against riders from other divisions. As a freshman, I have three more years to compete so I mostly feel bad for the seniors who had their races changed.”
The team is still riding a wave of pride since their alumna Haley Batten won her Olympic medal in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
