PARK CITY, Utah — Mammoth Drive, which connects Silver Creek Estates and Bitner Ranch, will open in both directions on Oct. 4, significantly cutting travel time between the two neighborhoods.
Why it matters: The two communities are only about a mile apart, but previously, motorists had to take a six-mile detour through Interstate 80 and Kimball Junction.
Details:
- Mammoth Drive has been open to westbound traffic for about a month. According to Summit County Special Projects Engineer Mike Kendell, it will be open both ways starting Friday afternoon.
- The road links Bitner Ranch Road to Silver Creek Road with two new roundabouts and features a paved pedestrian and bicycle trail.

The backstory: Announced last year, the road gets its name from the Ice Age-era remains found in the area, including a mammoth tooth discovered by Allan Lewis in his backyard in 1963.
