Park City opens new e-bike friendly singletrack trail
PARK CITY, Utah — Park City has unveiled its first dedicated singletrack trail for Class 1 e-bikes, a move aimed at embracing evolving technology and growing demand. The trail, which opens this week, begins at Snow Park and ends at Silver Lake Village in Deer Valley.
The trail connects to a more extensive network in Wasatch County, incorporating sections of existing trails like Finn’s, Deer Crest, and Mid Mountain and extending near Deer Valley’s East Village base area.
Why it matters: This is part of a pilot program approved by the Park City Council to accommodate e-mountain bikes. Park City Sustainability Manager Luke Cartin explained that trail crews have been posting new signage, and the trail will officially open to Class 1 e-bikes on Wednesday.
“We wanted to provide a new route to connect riders with the East Village and Wasatch County trails,” Cartin said, highlighting collaboration with Deer Valley and Deer Crest.
The trail: Class 1 e-bikes, which provide pedal assistance up to 20 mph, are the only type permitted on the trail. Cartin described the trail as having a moderate incline, suitable for most riders but not ideal for complete beginners.
The rules: While Park City generally bans e-bikes on singletrack, this new trail will be open to all Class 1 riders. The city does allow e-bikes on its paved pathways and in Clark Ranch. Wasatch County, however, permits e-bikes on all singletrack trails.
