Grant Fisher of Park City gets second bronze medal in Paris Olympics, this time running the 5,000m
PARIS — Grant Fisher, 27, of Park City, Utah, clinched bronze in the 5,000-meter track race Saturday at the Paris Olympics, adding to his earlier bronze in the 10,000 meters.
The Canadian-born athlete, who competed for Team USA in Tokyo, comes from a family of runners. Fisher attended high school in Grand Blanc, Michigan and college at Stanford University where he was a 12-time All American. He now trains in Park City with his former highschool coach Mike Scannell.

Fisher strategically navigated the 12-lap race, maintaining a top-five position for most of the event. In a dramatic finish, he sprinted past several competitors in the final stretch to secure bronze with a time of 13:15.13. Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen took gold in 13:13.66, with Kenya earning silver.
Earlier Saturday, Utah runners Connor Mantz, 27, from Logan, and Clayton Young, 30, from American Fork, finished eighth and ninth respectively in the Olympic marathon. The BYU alumni, both first-time Olympians, showcased sportsmanship with a mid-race high-five and by applauding fellow finishers at the end.
Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola, a last-minute team alternate, won gold and set a new Olympic record of 2:06:25 on the challenging Paris course. Belgium claimed silver and Kenya bronze.
In Friday’s competition, University of Utah diver Emilia Nilsson Garip placed ninth in the women’s 3m springboard, representing Sweden.
