Ecker Hill Middle School ‘Wing A’ construction nears completion during first week of school

District officials confident in August 26 deadline for new wing, despite last-minute hurdles

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City School District provided an update on the ongoing construction at Ecker Hill Middle School during the Board of Education meeting on August 20, 2024, emphasizing both progress and remaining challenges.

District officials reported that 99% of the construction work at Ecker Hill is complete. However, critical features such as data wiring, internet access, intercom systems, and telephones have not yet been fully installed. These components are necessary for student safety and day-to-day operations, leading to a delay in the opening of the new “Wing A.”

Students are expected to move into the 12 new classrooms by Aug. 26, 2024, with final inspections for fire protection scheduled this week. Despite the setbacks, the district remains optimistic. “Our target is next week, and we are well on track to make that happen,” officials stated.

Construction on the “Wing B” section of the school is still ongoing, with completion expected by January 2025. This will include finalizing the cafeteria, gym, and additional classroom spaces.

“We knew it was going to be tight the minute we embarked on this aggressive schedule, but we’re very proud of what we’ve been able to deliver,” the district spokesperson added, acknowledging the significant effort required to prepare the school for the new academic year.

The update concluded with a commitment to student safety and a focus on ensuring that the new spaces are fully functional before students occupy them.
