Husband flees after assaulting and hospitalizing elderly Summit County woman
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — On July 22, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a report from an adult male about a domestic assault at his parent’s residence on the east side of Summit County. Shortly after 12 p.m., deputies responded and found an elderly female who had been assaulted and required immediate medical attention. She was transported to a trauma center via helicopter and is currently being treated for her injuries.
Investigators determined that the victim’s husband, Kevin D. Wilde, was responsible for the attack. The severity of the victim’s injuries delayed her ability to report the incident, allowing the suspect several hours to flee before deputies arrived. Investigators used bank transaction records and license plate recognition technology to locate the suspect and alerted law enforcement agencies across Utah and neighboring states.
On the morning of July 23, Summit County investigators received information indicating that the suspect had traveled through Idaho and was possibly heading toward Montana. By 11:30 a.m. that day, authorities in Montana had located and apprehended the suspect following a brief attempt to flee.
An arrest warrant issued by the 3rd District Court is now in effect, and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating with Montana authorities to bring the suspect back to Utah.
Sheriff Frank Smith of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office stated, “We appreciate the swift action taken by our neighboring states’ law enforcement agencies to apprehend the suspect. Our priority is the safety and well-being of the victim, and we will ensure justice is served.”
The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with additional information related to this case to contact them directly.
