Police Log: Arrest made for intoxication on e-bike

Monday, July 1

Possession of Marijuana, Open Containers

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on highway SR-224 Northbound and Village Round Drive due to a license plate not being illuminated. Deputies detected a strong smell of marijuana upon speaking with the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. A K-9 unit was called in and alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. Subsequently, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found. A check of the driver’s records revealed that he did not possess a valid driver’s license and the vehicle was uninsured. Additionally, open containers of alcohol were discovered on the passenger floorboard. As a result, the driver was arrested and taken to Summit County Jail on charges including possession of a controlled substance.

Friday, July 5

Possession of Methamphetamine

A traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle with active warrants parked in the Smith’s parking lot. Upon confirming that the driver had active warrants for his arrest law enforcement officers arrested him and transported him to the Summit County Jail. During a search of the prisoner cage area, a methamphetamine pipe was discovered under the seat. The male was then booked and charged for the active warrants and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thursday, July 11

DUI

Deputies noticed a Dodge Van driving erratically in the westbound lane of 40. They pulled the vehicle over at 141 I80 Westbound. The driver emitted an odor of alcohol, both on their person and inside the vehicle. It was discovered that the driver did not possess a license and was under 21 years of age. Following a positive portable breath test for alcohol, the driver was arrested. Subsequently, the vehicle was impounded due to state tax regulations.

Saturday, July 13

Vehicular Pursuit

Deputies assisted Utah Highway Patrol in locating a reported domestic violence incident occurring in a moving vehicle with a reported firearm involved. A pursuit ensued after a felony stop was attempted on the vehicle, and it eventually came to a stop on Highway 40 headed east. Utah Highway Patrol assumed the investigation after the occupants were detained.

Public Intoxication

Deputies were dispatched to respond to a report of a verbal altercation involving four individuals at the Hyatt Escala Lodge. Upon arrival, it was evident that all individuals were heavily intoxicated and unable to provide coherent details of the incident. After an investigation, deputies concluded that a physical altercation had not taken place and three of the individuals were permitted to return to their hotel rooms. One male involved in the incident was found to be unable to care for himself due to his level of intoxication and had no accommodations for the night and as a result, he was arrested for public intoxication and safely transported to Summit County Jail without any issues.

Sunday, July 14

E-bike Intoxication

Deputies noticed an individual riding an e-bike on highway SR-224 exhibiting erratic behavior, including swerving across lanes into oncoming traffic and narrowly avoiding collisions with vehicles multiple times. Upon making contact with the rider, it became evident that he was heavily intoxicated. Consequently, the rider was arrested for intoxication and transported to the Summit County Jail.

Vehicle Theft

Deputies responded a report of a vehicle that had been stolen on East Meadows Drive during the overnight hours the shift prior. The vehicle was listed on the NCIC and investigators were able track the vehicle to a neighborhood in Magna. UPD recovered the vehicle and it was removed from the NCIC.

Saturday, July 20

Public Intoxication

Deputies responded to the Hyatt Place hotel for a highly intoxicated woman who was being aggressive and violent.  Upon arrival the subject was located and transported to the Park City Hospital. Due to her intoxication level and apparent lack of self control she was arrested without incident.
