Wildfire breaks out near homeless camp in Weber County

WEBER COUNTY, Utah — A human-caused Weber River fire started on June 26 at 6:30 p.m. along I-15 in Ogden and quickly spread to 10+ acres. Reports of several homeless camps in the area are believed to be associated with the start of the fire, which closed the northbound lane of I-15.

Fire crews were able to act quickly and get the fire 80% contained. They will monitor the fire today as a cold front moves into the area, accompanied by high winds, raising concerns about potential fire growth.

The current fire danger in Park City is moderate, meaning that fires in open cured grasslands will burn briskly and spread rapidly on windy days. Timber fires spread slowly to moderately fast.

So far this year, 336 wildfires have been reported in Utah, with 260 of those being human-caused.

As of this report, there are no active wildfires in Summit County.
