PC Sailing Association’s Christian Koules named coach of the year, leads team to California regatta wins

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Park City Sailing Association (PCSA) had 12 athletes represent the club at the Los Alamos Yacht Club’s regatta over Memorial Day weekend in Long Beach Bay where they won two of the three classes in which they competed.

Morgan Vesco placed first in the ILCA 4 Class, and Lin Zhou placed first in the RS Terra Class. Dashiell Stephens also stood on the podium in California, winning third place in RS Terra.

PCSA ‘Coach Christian’ Koules was recently awarded a national-level title of youth sailing Coach-of-the-Year. The awarding entity, Sail Design, wrote about the prestigious recognition, “He’s not a win-at-all-cost coach; we see far too much of this today. There are things far more important than trophies. Also, despite not hailing from one of the big sailing hotbeds,  Christian has really created an up and coming program at Park City, UT.”

PCSA parent and ardent program volunteer Michelle Bittle-Underhill told TownLift, “Coach Christian’s new and well deserved Coach-of-the -Year status is exciting but not surprising news for Park City Sailing, we can’t do it without him.”

Bittle-Underhill’s Park City High School senior, Turner Underhill will attend the University of Utah in the fall which means that he’ll be not only close to his Park City Cross Country Ski Team, but also to Jordanelle Reservoir, PCSA’s home base, and Primary Children’s Hospital Biddle-Underhill’s workplace.

Koule’s nomination process included a robust, heartfelt letter-writing campaign from impassioned, supportive athletes, parents, and volunteers representing the PCSA.
