“Tournaments provide a fantastic opportunity for our teams to grow competitively as well as our coaches, players, and families developing friendships and strong club culture,” Eli Ulvi, PCSC technical director, told TownLift. “The club leadership allocates a significant amount of time to planning appropriate tournaments for all of our teams and ensuring each event includes several PCSC teams so the aforementioned culture development is possible. We have had teams attend the event in beautiful Durango, Colorado previously but this is the first year we’ve had the event as an official part of our tournament planning. With eight teams attending, six teams reaching the finals, and four teams winning the championship, the club had a fantastic weekend.”
The G.O.A.L. (Go Out And Lead) initiative was introduced at the tournament, a program to encourage players to give back to their community with off-field volunteer efforts in community service.
This was a U.S. Youth Soccer sanctioned event with 30 clubs from all the Southwest states. The 29th annual tournament was for 9-16 year-olds and is a counterpart national tournament to the PCSC’s annual Extreme Cup which will once again be held In Park City, Oakley, and Heber in July.
This Colorado tournament essentially marks the end of the competition year for the PCSC. As seen on lawn signs placed around town, the new year begins later in May with Player Placements.
