Meet the faces behind the Gondola Art Stroll in Canyons Village
PARK CITY, Utah — Daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Park City Mountain Resort invites you to enjoy five unique art installations housed inside gondolas at Canyons Village. They are spread out between the Pendry Park City and the Grand Summit Hotel. Who are the creatives behind these unique installation, and what inspired them for each individual piece?
Find the fairy disco winter wonderland” near the Pendry Park City
Local artist Heather Peteroy with a background in prop and set design and watercolor painting created he “World of Magic” gondola. Coming from a long line of women artists and creatives, she was encouraged to make and paint whatever she could growing up. Now a mother of three, she loves finding creative opportunities close to home so her kids can see that art is a part of life. She believes local opportunities for artists to contribute creativity to the world create stronger communities.
Her gondola was inspired by her childhood obsession with fairies and fascination with holographic materials. The winter scene features fairies enjoying skiing, ice skating and snowball fights. Heather Peteroy uses collage and historical photography to build the fairies’ unique personalities and represent people from around the world.
Elisabeth Walsh presents “A Stroll through Park City”
Elisabeth Walsh created the gondola entitled “A Stroll through Park City”. She states, “through the meticulous application of line work, color blocking, and geometric patterns, I give life to captivating paintings and murals that capture the essence of unique landscapes found in Utah and beyond.”
“Cozy Mountain Town” can be found near the top of the Cabriolet
Brook Smart and Jeremy Morgan’s gondola highlights our “Cozy Mountain Town”. Brooke is an illustrator and mural artist. Jeremy is an architect and sculptor. Together they have three children. Their recent joint projects include multiple window displays for The Gateway in Salt Lake City.
Anna Leigh Moore presents the “Twinkly Night”
In The Spirit Of The Carol “Silent Night,” the design of the fourth gondola is “A Twinkly Rendition Of The Canyons At Night— When All Is Calm And All Is Bright..”. Anna Leigh Moore is another Park City based artist, who finds inspiration in the wild lands of the West. Anna states, “As an artist, my deepest joy comes from tracing the landscape with my physical body— and then immortalizing that experience in paint.”
Gondola #5 transports you into a “Woodland Wonderland”
Sally and Jessica Neilson-Berg are a married couple who have worked together in the past to create two public art pieces for the “Art Pianos for All” project. They created “Woodland Wonderland” using as much upcycled material as they could by working with a local theatre to acquire holiday decor, they were getting rid of. Keeping their carbon footprint small, they also incorporated used cardboard boxes to create the layering effect underneath the snow for depth and dimension. The resulting gondola has the feeling of an illustrated children’s book.
Installations will run through the end of the ski season in April.
