Alta snowfall surpasses 500 inches

ALTA, Utah – Alta Ski Area has officially surpassed 500 inches of snowfall this season. The resort shared the news Wednesday on X. 

The year-to-date tally at Alta, which stands at 504 inches as of Thursday morning according to the Ski Utah app, is the highest in the state. Snowbird is runner-up with 453 inches, followed by Brighton with 448 inches. 

These tallies are far below last year’s snowfall at this time, when Alta was reporting 665.5 inches of snow. Average snowfall at the resort situated at the top of  Little Cottonwood Canyon resort is 547 inches per year. 

The winter of 2023 was a banner year, as many riders remember. Alta ski area saw a record 903 inches of snow, topping its previous high by more than 150 inches. Snowbird set a record of 838 inches and Deer Valley surpassed 600 inches, exceeding the previous record of 484 inches during the 16/17 winter season.
