Join the conversation: Summit County and Park City address parking concerns
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Summit County and the Park City government are collaborating on a regional parking needs assessment and policy review to address parking shortages and transportation congestion in the area. They are asking the community to complete a two to four-minute survey to gather comments and concerns regarding park-and-ride facilities, transportation and parking in the area.
The Transportation Challenge
Transportation has emerged as one of the most critical areas requiring immediate attention and strategic planning in Summit County. The region’s unique dynamics present a multifaceted challenge: a majority of the workforce in Summit County commutes daily into Park City and Kimball Junction. Additionally, Park City alone welcomes more than half a million tourists annually. These factors, combined with recreational activities and special events, have led to significant congestion on the primary gateway corridors, SR-224 and SR-248.
Traffic congestion during peak hours not only disrupts the daily lives of residents but also poses safety concerns. Drivers often seek alternative routes through neighborhood streets, compromising the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. While there are existing park-and-ride lots in the community, a comprehensive strategy that integrates public transit and active modes of transportation has yet to be identified.
The survey is available online until Feb. 9.
