Wrong-way driver killed in crash in Parleys Canyon
The driver collided with two other vehicles headed in the opposite direction
PARLEYS CANYON, Utah — The driver of a pickup truck headed the wrong way on I-80 in Parleys Canyon was killed in a crash early Wednesday morning after colliding with two other vehicles.
According to a statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety, the adult male driver of a Toyota Tacoma pickup was seen heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-80 near 700 East at approximately 11:24 p.m.
Near milepost 130 on I-80 in Parley’s canyon, the vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma, crashed into a second Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and an Honda Element SUV, which were both traveling westbound.
The man driving the wrong-way Tacoma sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second Tacoma pickup had to be extricated from the vehicle. They suffered significant but non-life threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital.
The driver of the Honda SUV suffered minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital.
Westbound traffic on I-80 was shut down and diverted back eastbound for approximately two hours.
