East Canyon Road to close Friday, Dec. 8, gates locked on Mirror Lake Highway

This is the first year that East Canyon Road will close for the season

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Attention Summit County drivers, East Canyon Road (SR-65) is set to close for the winter on Friday, Dec. 8, and will remain closed until April 30, 2024.

No Summit County winter road maintenance will be performed on the road during this time.

“While Summit County has never performed winter maintenance on the road, this is the first year the road is closed for the season,” said a statement from Summit County. “There has been an increase in traffic recently and without winter maintenance the county wants to avoid unsafe conditions for motorists.”

The roadway will be open to authorized vehicles only, but non-motorized recreation will still be permitted on the road.

Recreators should avoid trespassing on adjacent open land, and blocking the gate if parking near the trailhead. Under County Code, dogs must be leashed or under e-collar at all times.

The Heber-Kamas Ranger District announced on Dec. 5 that the gates on Mirror Lake Highway (SR-150) have been closed and locked for the season. The road is now open to oversnow vehicles.
