2 men killed in plane crash east of Slate Canyon
PROVO, Utah — A 26-year-old Hideout man and a 23-year-old Santaquin man were killed in a plane crash yesterday morning.
According to a statement from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the plane crashed at approximately 11:16 a.m. on Tuesday east of Slate Canyon near Kyhv Peak Road. Where the plane took off from and its destination are unknown at this time.
A third man, 22, survived the crash and was hoisted off of the mountain by an Intermountain LifeFlight helicopter. He was transported to the Utah Valley Hospital where he is being treated.
The survivor of the crash was walking around when rescuers arrived, Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon told the Associated Press.
“The fact that they’re walking around is at least an initial good sign,” Cannon said. “That person was still moving and talking.”
The bodies of the two men killed in the accident were carried off of the mountain by Utah County Sheriff Search and Rescue.
The identities of the victims and the type of plane they were flying has not been released. The cause of the crash is being investigated.
