Linda McCausland’s 30 years of beautifying Park City
'I love to play with colors and see how they interact with each other, so they become more abstract'
PARK CITY, Utah — Linda McCausland started her career as an artist in 1986. While she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology, she always loved the lab courses because they involved lots of drawing. She developed her art skills by taking workshops, commercial art classes at the University of Cincinnati and fine art classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. This coming year, McCausland is celebrating 30 years of living in Park City.
Encaustic painting
Her paintings are watercolors, and encaustic, where you use heated wax and add colors to it or even small objects. One of those is on display in the Into the Woods exhibit at the Park City Library through Nov. 19. However, since long term exposure to heated wax is not healthy, she now paints mostly with acrylics and pastels. She enjoys painting landscapes and animals.
In 2010, she was one of 36 artists chosen to paint on a fiberglass dog for the Dogs of Bark City fundraiser.
You can see her artwork at the St. Regis. Instead of taking the funicular up, take the stairs one floor up and the bright blue dog with scenes of Park City will be looking straight at you.

The painting she submitted for the new emPOWERment art project, which was installed in late October, is an abstract landscape. You can see it in person on the north end of Three Kings Drive. McCausland says, “I love to play with colors and see how they interact with each other, so they become more abstract.”
McCausland paints from photos or lets her mood at the time guide her. You may also find her plein-air painting around town.
Now McCausland is preparing for Brand PC by painting a new Christmas card. She sells notecards and small paintings at the Arts Council’s holiday pop-up. This year it will be at the Outlets of Park City from Dec. 1 -24.
