Highland Estates shooter sentenced to 1 to 15 years
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — A man who shot and killed his tenant at the Highland Estates neighborhood could serve up to 15 years for manslaughter.
James Kip Ramsdell, 60, was sentenced by Judge Richard Mrazik on Oct. 20 to one to 15 years in prison for the Oct. 2021 shooting of 50-year-old John Krieg.
Krieg was renting the basement of Ramsdell’s home on Countryside Circle at the Highland Estates at the time of his death.
Ramsdell was initially charged with murder, but plead guilty to manslaughter last month.
Up to this point, Ramsdell was held at the Summit County Jail, but he will serve out his sentence in the Utah State Prison.
Ramsdell’s restitution hearing is scheduled for Dec. 22 at 10 a.m., he could face up to a $10,000 fine for manslaughter.
