Climbers, ready your ropes: “Golden Carabiner Hunt” returns to Wasatch
The mission is simple: locate the elusive golden Black Diamond carabiners, which are fastened to route anchors throughout the Wasatch
SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake Climbers Alliance (SLCA) is set to thrill climbers and outdoor enthusiasts once again with their much-anticipated event, the “Golden Carabiner Hunt,” scheduled for Oct. 28. Participants will embark on the treasure hunt at 7 a.m., exploring climbing routes ranging in difficulty from 5.6 to 5.12, providing opportunity for climbers of all skill levels.
The mission is simple: locate the elusive golden Black Diamond carabiners, which are fastened to route anchors throughout the Wasatch. These golden treasures are the keys to claiming victory. Once found, participants can collect their rewards at the Black Diamond HQ retail store.
For those looking for an added bonus, secret clue lists to the carabiner’s locations are available for a nominal fee of $10. The proceeds support the SLCA’s Anchor Maintenance Program dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of climbing routes. Routes featuring the coveted golden carabiners have been carefully maintained by this program, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of climbers.
The mission of the SLCA’s Fixed Anchor Maintenance Program is to evaluate the condition of established anchors, oversee current and future maintenance needs, and replace outdated or unreliable anchors when necessary. This mission is executed in collaboration with landowners and agencies, emphasizing responsible climbing practices and environmental stewardship.
Whether you’re an adventure seeker, a climbing enthusiast, or someone looking for a day of fun and exploration in the Wasatch Mountains, the “Golden Carabiner Hunt” promises a thrilling day of climbing, community, and the opportunity to win Black Diamond gear while supporting a noble cause.
Clue lists will be distributed at 7 a.m. on Oct. 28. For those acquiring clue sheets after noon on Oct. 27, they can reach out to Brenna.king@bdel.com, providing a purchase screenshot to receive their clue list.
Those who find the Golden Carabiners will need to bring them to the Black Diamond Headquarters retail store at 6 p.m. on Oct. 28 to claim their prize.
