Join Dee-Dee Darby-Duffin in supporting the Utah Symphony’s passion project
PARK CITY, Utah — Enjoy an evening of jazz, rock, R&B, and Gospel music, showcasing the talent of local Salt Lake City-based crooner Dee-Dee Darby-Duffin for a good cause on Sunday, August 6, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Park City Gardens.
Music lovers will enjoy a night of soulful performances during the fundraising and awareness campaign for a Utah Symphony musician-driven passion project, the Haitian Orchestra Institute (HOI). This project aims to enrich the lives of Haitian classical music students; all proceeds go towards offsetting travel costs for the Utah Symphony musicians to travel to Haiti.
The Utah Symphony, one of the few full-time, 52-week orchestras in the United States, boasts a talented ensemble of 85 full-time musicians. Throughout the year, these musicians perform an extensive repertoire of concerts across Utah, including schools, as part of their educational endeavors as well as the Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City during the summer.
During their winter performance break, John Eckstein and Yuki MacQueen, as well as dozens of other musicians from the Utah Symphony in the past six years, have journeyed to Haiti to share their expertise and teach music. This initiative beautifully highlights the universal power of music, which knows no boundaries and has the ability to profoundly impact lives.
The Haitian Orchestra Institute (HOI) is a non-profit program dedicated to nurturing young classical musicians throughout Haiti. This program provides full funding to students from all corners of the country, allowing them to participate in the week-long educational program. The select musicians from Utah Symphony generously volunteer their vacation time and share their expertise to support this impactful initiative.
