Wildfire risk expected to rise with temps in coming weeks
PARK CITY, Utah – While wildfires may not be top of mind due to the unseasonably cold and wet June we had, the time has come to remember your fire sense. Utah’s record snow-pack means more grass and shrubs and thus more fuel and fire hazards then the last few years. With the hottest days of the year typically occurring in mid to late July and the extended forecast showing no sign on rain wildfire danger is expected to rise in the coming weeks.
According to Utah Fire Info there are no active fires in Summit County at the time of publishing.
Tips for wildfire prevention
- Keep in mind small fires can quickly escalate into large fires.
- If you’re having a campfire, keep a bucket of water and shovel nearby to extinguish your fire, and check for heat before leaving.
- When parking your car, park away from dry grass and keep your vehicle properly maintained to prevent roadside fires.
Gov. Spencer J. Cox shared the following video with some additional tips an information about staying alert with your fire sense.
Last year Utah reported a 60% reduction in human caused wildfires.
