Is your home a wildfire risk? DNR’s new tool helps assess
UTAH — Utah is constantly threatened by wildfires that can rapidly spread to urban areas. The state’s population boom has led to a community expansion that encroaches on wildland areas, along with raising concerns about long-term drought and fuel accumulation.
The Utah Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands has a risk assessment tool for homeowners to mitigate their wildfire risk. The Utah Wildfire Risk Assessment Portal (UWRAP) is a free tool through the website to assist in identifying your risk of wildfire per address.
“The Utah Wildfire Risk Assessment Portal provides homeowners and county leadership with a visual of their community’s fire risk. Other areas of risk that users can see are the probability that a specific area may burn as well as their structure exposure score. Through seeing and understanding your wildfire risk, communities, and homeowners can use this information to prepare in the event of a wildfire in their area,” said Karl Hunt, the division public information officer for the Utah DNR.
