Men arrested for driving with rifle barrel pointed at others on SR-189

HEBER CITY, Utah — Heber City residents and drivers got a big scare on the evening of Sunday, June 5, as a moving vehicle was allegedly pointing a rifle barrel out of its windows on SR-189. Four men were arrested for this after many called Heber City Police to report the incidents.

Officers performed a traffic stop and directed the driver and passengers to exit the vehicle with hands shown and lie on the ground. In the search of the vehicle, police found the barrel of an AR-15, open alcohol containers, and methamphetamine.

The driver, 20-year-old David Gevacio, initially did not cooperate with police. The scent of alcohol was detected, and a field sobriety test indicated impairment. He was booked into Wasatch County Jail for driving while impaired, open container, drinking alcohol in a vehicle, consuming alcohol as a minor, interfering with an arresting officer, and refusing a chemical test, according to the affidavits.

One victim shared a photo with police that showed 21-year-old Brayan Ortiz Moreno pointing the rifle barrel at another driver. He was booked for charges of threatening the use of a dangerous weapon, possessing a controlled substance, knowingly selling an alcoholic product to a minor, and a misdemeanor charge of open container in a vehicle.

A jail deputy at Wasatch County Jail found a small bag of meth on the third suspect, Jonny Gevacio, age 26. The fourth suspect is  21-year-old Hector Adrian Lara Romero. Gervacio was booked for charges of transporting prohibited items to a correctional facility, knowingly selling an alcoholic product to a minor, and misdemeanor charges of open container in a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance. Romero, was booked for knowingly selling an alcoholic product to a minor, and open container and drinking alcohol in a vehicle, and intoxication.
