Dangerous driving conditions results in multiple closures in the Cottonwood Canyons
UTAH — As weather ranging from rain to snow passes through the state, it’s been a mix of problems for Utahns. Southern Utah has seen numerous flash flood warnings. Across the state, backcountry avalanche risk continues to rise, with all areas at least at considerable danger ratings. Roadways have been particularly challenging, with the Cottonwoods being potentially dangerous without properly equipped vehicles.
Brighton Resort posted a video on Twitter of a vehicle losing traction and sliding sideways before regaining traction, with a line of vehicles in front of them. The traction law is in effect for both Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. SR 210 is closed to uphill traffic at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, with downhill traffic closed a multiple areas.
If you don’t not have 4×4 and snow tires, please do not drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon today. Conditions in the Brighton Loop are very snowy and if you don’t have 4×4 with snow tires you will most likely get stuck. @UDOTcottonwoods pic.twitter.com/JrKvcGdRni
