PARK CITY, Utah — In celebration of Black History Month, Park City Municipal shared a photo of Howard Coleman, an early Park City Resident.Initially from Kentucky, Coleman was one of about 350,000 African American soldiers to serve in World War I. After the war Coleman found work as a Pullman porter, serving as an attendant on overnight trains.
The photo, which is a part of the Park City Museum and Historical Society’s Roslyn Stewart Collection, depicts five Pullman Porters including Coleman at the center.
When his work as a Pullman porter brought Coleman to Park City, he was able to connect with a local friend and find work in town.
