Honor Title IX’s 50th with 3 distinguished speakers
PARK CITY, Utah — Join in the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX as the Women of Har Shalom give a presentation entitled: SUPER WOMEN, 50 YEARS OF TITLE IX, THREE UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES ON WOMEN IN SPORTS.
In 1972, Title IX prohibited discrimination, on the basis of sex, in any school or any other education program that receives funding from the federal government.
Speakers will include:
Jodi Buren, Author of the book “SuperWomen -100 Women – 100 Sports” A vibrant photographic celebration of the American Woman Athlete
Harriet Hopf, University of Utah Anesthesiologist, three sport college athlete, and advocate for women in collegiate sports
Abby Ringquist, Retired Nordic Ski Jumper who represented Team USA/US Ski and Snowboard/USA Nordic in the 2018 PyongChang Olympics. Abby grew up in Park City, graduating from the Park City High School, then from Westminster College in Salt Lake City. She’s been a coach for Park City Ski and Snowboard, and a volunteer for the Youth Sports Alliance.
Women of Har Shalom Board Member, Temple Har Shalom Board Member and event organizer Donna Gordon told TownLift, “Park City’s dynamic sport culture harbors countless anecdotes surrounding the evolution of Title IX and we wanted to celebrate its decades of forward movement and how that benefits our community at large.”
Any donations made at the event will support the Park City nonprofit, The Solomon Fund which aims to create opportunities for children through inclusion in sports with equity throughout Park City’s diverse community.
