SNAPPED: Rockport State Park reservoir capped with ice

WANSHIP — Photos shared this weekend by the Rockport State Park show its reservoir capped with ice- although probably not enough to begin ice fishing just yet.

“The reservoir capped last night, probably not enough to start ice fishing yet as there was open water yesterday,” said a December 17 Facebook post from Rockport State Park. “Still lots of cold days and nights in the forecast, which will only improve ice conditions. Great timing for Christmas break.”

The state park also issued a warning to those planning to venture onto the ice later this winter.

“Ice is Never 100% Safe! — Do not judge ice safety on thickness alone,” said the Facebook post. “Ice does not form or maintain a uniform thickness. Snow, wind, slush, temperature, and other factors can cause ice thickness and strength to vary greatly, even within inches. Recreate on ice at your own risk and verify ice thickness as you head out.”
