Artique, the co-op for local artists
KAMAS, Utah — Artique exists to support and promote local artisans of all kinds in Utah’s beautiful mountain town. Shoppers will find unique works from individuals uniting their creative forces into a collective that celebrates each artist’s aesthetic. From pottery to paintings and fiber arts, Artique offers what no other place can: up-and-coming work by talented locals with heartfelt stories behind them.
“Myself and two other artists began selling our artwork at little pop-ups around Park City and wanted to get our work out there,” said Katie Stellpflug, owner. “When I moved to Kamas in 2010, I found this cute little store on Main Street and asked the ladies if they would be interested in opening the gallery. So we just started selling our work in the 400 sq. foot storefront.”
Opened in 2011 in quaint Kamas, Utah, this collaborative artist residency offers something special: a diverse range of artwork crafted by local artists that celebrate the region’s culture and creativity. More than 20 local artists from around Summit County display their creations and commit to working at least one shift a month at the storefront.
“All the artists run the shop; every artist participating in the store also works at the store in trade,” said Stellpflug. “I also have a ceramic studio in the back with a potter’s wheel and work table. We feature a different artist on the first Friday of every month.”
For those looking for a unique piece of art, a craft item, or a special gift this holiday season, Artique has the goods. And shoppers know a local artist created it. Items are rotated each month and seasonally, allowing new items to be displayed. With pieces ranging from jewelry, metal work and glass to iconic mountainscapes and vibrant paintings, there is truly something for everyone.
