Triple overtime for high school football final

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Despite Park City High’s absence from the 5A finals of the football season on Friday night, the teams took the matchup to and through three overtime periods.

The University of Utah’s Rice Eccles Stadium set the scene for the reigning division champs from Lehi High School to go up against the team from Timpview. Both squads having bested Park City over the autumn season. Lehi ended the Miners’ bid for the title in the second round of the playoffs.

The television commentators found the fact that it had been since 1976 that a triple overtime had occurred in this annual tournament.

23 -23 at the end of regulation, status quo at the end of the first and second overtimes.

The Lehi coach told the television field commentator after the win, “It’s hard to put into words right now but I’m just so ecstatic for my guys and what they went through before this game.” He laughed as he continued, “I had three concession speeches prepared at some time tonight.”

Lehi ended the game with a touchdown making the final score Timpview 23, Lehi 29. The MVP of the game was Carson Gonzales.
